For the summer exposition in the ‘Centrale Bibliotheek Rotterdam’ (Library Rotterdam) publisher Lemniscaat showed us the children book ‘Feestmaal voor de Koning’ (‘Feast for the King’) by Marlies Verhelst en Linde Faas. We were immediately hooked, as the illustration are beautiful and the story lends itself well to make a ‘who done it’ quest around it. So together with Harry Hoek I made a 3,5m high cake of bacon, steaks and sausages, as the king is a lion. The chef in the story is this funny tarantula with a chefs hat. Around the cake you find tasty snacks: caterpillars, cockroaches and maggots noodle soup. On the big white table around the cake the children could go on a quest, along all animal guest on the birthday party, finding out who did take the first bite of the big chunk on the top of the cake. The exposition was visited by around 6000 guests in 6 weeks.
