This is a device designed to help you waste time. From the outside, it has an industrial appearance with a heavy, dark structure and chimneys puffing out plumes of smoke. But when you peek through one of the small hatches, you discover a sweet explosion of color. Brightly colored marbles roll through intricate tracks, carousels spin cheerfully, and all around you, there are movements and sounds inviting you to join in this joyful chaos. The contrast between the exterior and interior of the machine highlights the delightful futility of being unproductive.

In ‘The Dreamscapes’ you will find yourself in an alternate world. For an instant you’re between fishes in a coral reef, peeping true little window frames in the buildings of a small city by night or listening to thoughts in somebody’s brain. The installation contains of three geometric forms where you only stick your head in. With model techniques, (moving) images, sound, smell and light a world is created where you can only dream of.
Here you see the sugary-sweet pink world inside a dome, where two people can visit at the same time.

Vlaardingen, like many municipalities in the Netherlands, is many meters below sea level. What’s the children’s perspective on this question of the future: ‘How can you live with water?’. Will you put on a very long snorkel at the dining table, will Vlaardingen become a floating island or will you tie the city behind a rocket and move to the moon? Behind the windows of the city on legs you will find a number of scenes that were devised in a ‘Kite Education’ workshop.

MECHATROPOLIS

Mechatropolis is an interactive low-tec installation in which you let metal balls roll, spin, twist and jump through a large wooden marble track full of mechanics. All parts, including a maze, a magnetic lift, a puzzle with gears and a track with musical instruments are linked to each other, so you will complete the entire track. Playing, visually discovering and practical puzzling are key.

In this ‘Cinemabiotoop’ you’re invited to explore a forest world crafted from found objects. Peer through small viewers to discover a tiny animated character brought to life in stereoscopic stop-motion. Follow his daily routines and witness how he becomes part of this wild life in this otherworldly habitat. By combining physical objects with animation, Cinemabiotoop Wild Life invites viewers to reimagine how these mediums interact and coexist.
