Vlaardingen, like many municipalities in the Netherlands, is many meters below sea level. What’s the children’s perspective on this question of the future: ‘How can you live with water?’. Will you put on a very long snorkel at the dining table, will Vlaardingen become a floating island or will you tie the city behind a rocket and move to the moon? Behind the windows of the city on legs you will find a number of scenes that were devised in a ‘Kite Education’ workshop.

Vlaardingen, like many municipalities in the Netherlands, is many meters below sea level. What’s the children’s perspective on this question of the future: ‘How can you live with water?’. Will you put on a very long snorkel at the dining table, will Vlaardingen become a floating island or will you tie the city behind a rocket and move to the moon? Behind the windows of the city on legs you will find a number of scenes that were devised in a ‘Kite Education’ workshop.

A piece of forest made from found objects—bath mats turn into moss, beads and brush hair become tiny plants. By zooming in with small binoculars, you see a tiny man with a rough beard, no larger than a fingertip, going about his daily activities in this untamed space. This miniature ecosystem offers a surprising break from your everyday routine.

An exploration of a new way to experience moving images, Wild Life combines detailed model-making, animation, electronics, sound, and scent in a multidisciplinary art installation.

Mechatropolis is an interactive low-tec installation in which you let metal balls roll, spin, twist and jump through a large wooden marble track full of mechanics. All parts, including a maze, a magnetic lift, a puzzle with gears and a track with musical instruments are linked to each other, so you will complete the entire track. Playing, visually discovering and practical puzzling are key.

Mechatropolis is an interactive low-tec installation in which you let metal balls roll, spin, twist and jump through a large wooden marble track full of mechanics. All parts, including a maze, a magnetic lift, a puzzle with gears and a track with musical instruments are linked to each other, so you will complete the entire track. Playing, visually discovering and practical puzzling are key.

But when you peek through one of the small hatches, you discover a sweet explosion of color. Brightly colored marbles roll through intricate tracks, carousels spin cheerfully, and all around you, there are movements and sounds inviting you to join in this joyful chaos. The contrast between the exterior and interior of the machine highlights the delightful futility of being unproductive.

For the cultural center Casa Cadanza, I had the privilege of creating this unique marketing piece. At the heart of this bell pepper, dreams and wishes from local residents for the under-construction cultural center were gathered on paper embedded with seeds. The green cap is removable, allowing the seed-filled core with wishes to be taken out. This core was planted at the construction site during the groundbreaking ceremony. The bell pepper serves as a symbol for the project’s investors.

Over the years, I organized, programmed, and decorated a variety of events, ranging from a weekend pop-up sushi restaurant to the festival Nachtverhalen en Dagdromen (featuring an indoor forest during the winter months), as well as several business events.

One of my favorite projects was organizing an event together with Conform Cox for Keilewerf’s 10th anniversary. We turned it into a birthday party for a 10-year-old
